Internet's wonderful obsession with cats

 Little critters are popular all over the internet.But cats in particular seems to won the hearts of many.Theres even a saying "Cats rule the internet".

Popularity of cats is as old as the internet.From keyboard cat in 1984 to Mr.Fresh in morden. Let's not forget Tardar Sauce aka the grumpy cat herself,one of the biggest internet critter celebrity!There are also Bongo cat,Nyan cat,Hapi cat and more.

So why does internet loves cats so much?To simply put,they are silly little creatures that gives us joy by viewing them.Some argue that there is a depth and complexity to this seemingly simple content, with a suggestion that the positive psychological effects that pets have on their owners also hold true for cat images viewed online.Research has suggested that viewing online cat media is related to positive emotions, and that it even may work as a form of digital therapy or stress relief for some users. Some elements of research also shows that feelings of guilt when postponing tasks can be reduced by viewing cat content.

According to Wired magazine cuteness of cats was "too simplistic" an explanation of their popularity online.Jason Eppink, curator of the "How Cats Took Over the Internet" exhibition, explained: "People on the web are more likely to post a cat than another animal, because it sort of perpetuates itself. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy."Cats have historically been associated with magic, and have been revered by various human cultures, the ancient Egyptians worshipping them as gods and the creatures being feared as demons in ancient Japan,such as the bakeneko. 

Cat's have become the unofficial mascot of online media.It's almost impossible to be in social media and never seeing any cat related content.THEY ARE EVERYWHERE AND YOU SHALL NOT ESCAPE THEM!Single brain cell behaviour of cats makes them more endearing.As if they are our own children.It also enhances their cuteness factor.

Some cats popularity increases so much so that they start to be considered as internet celebrities.Tardar Sauce was one such cat.Her under bite and feline dwarfism was the cause of her permanent grumpy facial expression.Her image was used to express humorous negatively and cynical image.

Watching stupid (affectionate) creatures doing stupid (again affectionate) things is simply  therapeutic.Cats are the pinnacle of cute creature (In my very biased opinion).And cuteness is what rules the internet.
